Kids Master Program Guide

Three age groups. One child at a time.

Kids Master Program (KM) is TXSNOW’s one-to-one ski and snowboard program for children aged 1–11. Sessions are organized into three age groups based on children’s developmental stages. Instructor qualifications are reviewed separately for each age group.

A program that grows with the child

Ages 1–4

Snow Munchkins

Shorter attention spans, with a focus on sensory exploration and basic movement.

Ages 5–7

Little Heroes

Stamina, basic movement control and independence are gradually developing.

Ages 8–11

Young Adventurers

Reasoning skills, stamina and attention are developing.

Shared standards

1:1

KM sessions are offered exclusively one-to-one.

Mix & match

Combine age-appropriate modules totalling at least two hours to book an instructor’s time in advance.

Age-specific certification

Instructors must pass the experience review, current-season training and assessment for the relevant age group.

Flexibility for parents

Parents may request an older or younger age group to suit their child’s needs, within safety and compliance limits.

Moving up

A child may enter the next age group up to one year early. For example, a four-year-old with noticeably advanced stamina and skills who can manage a longer skills session may take the Little Heroes session for ages 5–7, following confirmation before the session.

Choosing a shorter skills session

A child may move to a younger age group for a shorter period of technical instruction. For example, an eight-year-old with limited stamina may choose the Little Heroes option in the 2H Hassle-Free Series: 90 minutes of KM instruction plus 30 minutes of Snow Buddy Time, totalling two hours.

An instructor or TXSNOW Support must confirm any age-group adjustment with the parent before the session and help them purchase the appropriate option.

The KM philosophy & Montessori-inspired teaching

Build interest and independence

We begin with interest, laying the foundation for a lasting love of the sport and future skill development. Instructors adapt the session to how the child is feeling and, within safe and age-appropriate limits, involve the child in choosing what to learn, how to learn and for how long.

Do not force a child to continue

Younger or more reserved children may need more time to feel safe and become interested. If discomfort, tiredness or another unexpected situation makes a child clearly unwilling to continue skills instruction, the instructor does not need to insist simply because the parent has paid.

Switch to Snow Buddy Time

The instructor may turn the remaining session time into Snow Buddy Time without obtaining the guardian’s approval in advance. Activities may include walks in the snow, hide-and-seek, snow play, snowball games, indoor stories about skiing or snowboarding, getting familiar with equipment, or an indoor rest. Interest and emotional comfort come first. When the child is willing and enjoying themselves, gentle instruction in stance, balance or a wedge-ready position can be woven in.

Communicate with parents and provide post-session feedback

After the session, tell parents in the session group chat if the session was changed to Snow Buddy Time. If the child insists on going home or finding their parent, contact the parent to confirm whether to end the session. Post-session feedback should review interest and safety, and suggest the next safe goal and suitable terrain.

KM instructor requirements

Experience is counted separately for each age group an instructor applies to teach. The instructor must meet one of the experience pathways for that group, complete the current season’s training and assessment, and pass the review before becoming a KM-certified instructor for that age group.

Other relevant teaching & caregiving experience

Experience must relate to the age group being applied for. Instructors must be able to explain the source of their hours and provide supporting evidence or a reference who can be contacted.

  • Teaching children sports such as tennis, swimming, fencing or skating.
  • Accompanying children in activities such as cycling, basketball, soccer or taekwondo.
  • Childcare.
  • Supporting children through church, community or charitable activities, such as reading stories or playing games.

Combined experience examples

Instructor Amber

12 hours of on-snow instruction with children aged 1–4, plus two years of childcare experience with the same age group (hundreds of hours). The combined total exceeds 50 hours and meets the Snow Munchkins experience requirement.

Instructor Billy

15 hours of on-snow instruction with children aged 5–7, plus about 35 hours accompanying a niece of the same age group on bike rides. The total of 50 hours meets the Little Heroes experience requirement.

Instructor Clara
